A man drove into a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere check in Rama First Nation recently and ended up facing several charges.
Rama Police Service say the man had an open container of alcohol and cannabis "readily available" when he drove into RIDE check on Rama Road at approximately 9:54 p.m. on Sept. 26.
"An odour of cannabis was detected, causing the officers to enter a Cannabis Control Act and Liquor Licence Act investigation," notes a media release.
As a result of the investigation, Rama Police seized approximately 40 grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $5,000 and approximately 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $2,000 along with other cannabis- and alcohol-related items.
A 44-year-old Barrie man was arrested and charged with numerous drug related charges:
- Possession of schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking — methamphetamine
- Possession of schedule 1 substance for the purpose of Trafficking — opioid
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime
- Driving while under suspension
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of alcohol
- Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
The accused, whose identity was not released by police, is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Nov. 26 2024.
