Police are looking for a driver who crashed into a road sign and fled the scene Tuesday in Gravenhurst.

At 7:10 p.m., Bracebridge OPP received reports from members of the public about a possibly impaired driver on Muskoka Beach Road. They were told a light blue or grey BMW SUV with damage to the right front end and a flat rear tire collided with a street sign near Brydon’s Bay Road, damaging the sign. When a concerned citizen went to check on the driver, she drove away, heading south on Muskoka Beach Road.

Drivers involved in a collision must remain at the scene and report it to police immediately. Those convicted of failing to remain could receive a fine of up to $2,000, seven demerit points, and a driver’s licence suspension.

Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestopperssdm.com.
