It's never good to be woken up by a police officer while you're behind the wheel of an idling vehicle.
That's what happened to a 46-year-old Midland man just after midnight on Feb. 25, police say.
A citizen alerted the Southern Georgian Bay OPP that a blue Mazda had been seen driving erratically. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the driveway of a Hugel Avenue residence in Midland.
"The officer approached the running vehicle and found the lone driver passed out behind the steering wheel and when awoken by the officer, was confused and disoriented and found himself quickly in police custody and under investigation for impaired driving," notes a media release.
The media release said "investigative breath tests" revealed the man's blood alcohol level three times over the legal amount. As a result, the man was charged with operation while impaired — alcohol and operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). He was later released after sobering up at the police station.
The accused was served a 90-day driver's licence suspension and will answer his charges in court at a future date. His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
