'Apparent shooting' leads to heavy police presence in Barrie

Simcoe County paramedics say they transported two people to hospital; Police say victims suffered 'serious' injuries

There is a heavy police presence in two areas of the city following an "apparent shooting," Tuesday evening.

Barrie police say the incident took place in the area of Bayfield and Grove streets at approximately 5 p.m. Two victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, but there is not believed to be any threat to public safety.

Simcoe County paramedics also confirmed they had transported two people to hospital with serious injuries.

There is also police activity at Grove and Duckworth, but police haven't confirmed whether they two are related, and if so, how they are connected.

Police have blocked off Bayfield Street from the Highway 400 to Wellington Street.

Also, at the intersection of Duckworth Street and Grove Street there are several police vehicles. Heading westbound on Grove Street is inaccessible to vehicles or pedestrians.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon says the situation was "fluid and in the early stages."

It appears Barrie police are focused on houses on Grove Street.
