Highway 11 driver charged with impaired was carrying drugs: OPP

Police spotted the vehicle parked on the wrong side of the road; a 22-year-old is facing multiple charges

A driver who police spotted stopped on the side of the road is facing impaired charges. 

On Sept. 9 around 12:35 a.m., Temiskaming OPP stopped to check a vehicle that was heading northbound and stopped on the southbound shoulder of Highway 11 in Harley Township, which is just south of Earlton. 

Police say the driver had been drinking and when the suspect was arrested, suspected methamphetamine was seized. 

A 22-year-old Earlton resident is charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine. 

The accused was released from custody and is slated to appear in court on Sept. 24. Their vehicle was also impounded for seven days, and their licence is suspended for 90 days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
