'I heard a big bang': Van crashes into west Orillia nail salon

Driver suffered 'very minor' injuries, says OPP; Nail Luxury owner says business remains open in wake of morning crash

A van crashed into the back of a nail salon in west Orillia on Thursday morning.

The investigating officer on the scene, Const. Laurin, said the vehicle struck the back wall of Nail Luxury. The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

"The cause of the accident is unknown at this time," he said, noting the crash is under investigation.

While nobody was seriously hurt, Laurin says the driver of the Honda Odyssey suffered "very minor" injuries.

Anna Tan, owner of Nail Luxury, says the incident occurred around 11 a.m.

"From what I heard, the driver was coming from Food Basics," she explained. "They lost control and crashed into the building."

Tan says she knew something had happened to the building immediately.

"I was in the back when I heard a big bang," she explained. "It was very loud, and it knocked some things off the wall."

Tan, who is not the owner of the building, says the incident won't affect business and the salon can remain open for the rest of the day.

"Nobody was hurt in our store," she said. "Everything is business as usual for us."
