A local taxi collided with a vehicle near the Fittons and West plaza Friday afternoon.

A local taxi driver was involved in a two-car collision near the intersection of Fittons Road and West Street North Friday afternoon.

Just after 3:30 p.m., a taxi was driving past the Fittons and West plaza when a vehicle cut in front of it and caused the collision, said Kayla Rawlings, a local nurse who witnessed the accident.

“I was pulling out from the gas station, and unfortunately this taxi was going straight, and the lady in the Chevy decided to just cross over. She was trying to make a left into the gas station parking lot here,” Rawlings said.

The force of the impact pushed the Chevrolet into a snowbank near the plaza, and Rawlings said the fire department used the jaws of life to remove the woman from the vehicle.

She said the two occupants in the taxi and the lone occupant of the Chevrolet did not appear to sustain serious injuries.

“They've all (received) medical attention, and luckily, I'm a nurse, so I responded on scene first and everyone seemed OK,” she said. “I called 911, and they were very helpful. They were here within minutes.”

Orillia OPP did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
