Impaired investigation leads to drug seizure in Port Severn

Police seized drugs during a traffic stop Sept. 30 in Port Severn.

A man is facing numerous charges after police say he was found slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in Port Severn.

On Sept. 30 at about 1:19 p.m., someone contacted police after seeing the man at the Baxter Ward Community Centre. Officers showed up and saw the vehicle being operated near the community centre, and they pulled it over.

Police determined the driver was impaired, and they found drugs in the vehicle, Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.

Isaiah Distefano, 26, of Barrie, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Failure to comply with a release order other than to attend court (two counts)
  • Possession of more than 30 grams of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place
  • Possession of illicit cannabis
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (opioid other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule 4 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Driving with cannabis readily available
  • Failing to have an insurance card
  • Driving without a licence
  • Failing to properly wear a seatbelt

He was held for a bail hearing.
