Severn Township man charged after transport strikes overpass

A 55-year-old Severn Township man faces two charges after a truck he was driving allegedly struck a Highway 400 overpass.

Around 1 p.m., Monday, South Simcoe police say an eastbound transport truck on Innisfil Beach Road rammed into the bottom structure of the Highway 400 overpass.

The collision damaged the overpass and sent debris flying onto the road.

The truck driver was not injured, but Innisfil Beach Road was closed in both directions for nearly two hours. 

Ministry of Transportation officials attended the scene to assess the damage.

The Severn man, who was not identified by police, has been charged with failure to report an accident and oversize vehicle - violate permit. He was released with a future court date.
