Local man facing multiple charges after breaking into grocery store

The accused is also charged with assaulting an employee, say OPP, who say the 52-year-old entered the building through an employee door

Police have charged a 52-year-old following a break-and-enter at a business in Gravenhurst on Wednesday night.

Around 10:20 p.m., Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a break-in at a grocery store.

Police say a man got into the building through an employee door and tried to steal goods from the store.

Employees responded initially and police say the accused assaulted an employee during the attempted theft. 

The responding officers arrested the accused.

As a result, Terry Traynor has been charged with:

  • break and enter CC 348(1)(b)
  • assault cause bodily harm CC 267(c)
  • assault with a weapon CC 267(a)
  • robbery with violence CC 343(a)
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose CC 88
  • obstruct person in the lawful execution of a process CC 129(c)
  • fail to comply with probation CC 733.1(1)

The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing.
