Man charged after stolen vehicle found ablaze in Muskoka: OPP

Police say the 21-year-old driver fled the scene initially after vehicle he was driving left roadway, hit a rock cut and burst into flames

A vehicle fire in Muskoka Lakes Township early this morning has led to charges for a 21-year-old from Port Carling.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers with the Bracebridge Ontario Pro0vincial Police, Muskoka Lakes Fire, and Muskoka EMS responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and hit a rock cut on Muskoka Road 118 east of Scarcliffe Road and was on fire.

Officers that arrived on scene could not locate the driver initially. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen and police say the driver fled the scene after the crash.

As a result of the investigation, Gurmehakpreet Singh has been charged with:

  • take motor vehicle without consent CC 335(1)
  • obstruct peace officer CC 129(a)
  • fail to remain at the scene HTA 200(1)(a)
  • drive motor vehicle with no plates HTA 7(1)(b)(i)

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 22, 2024 to answer to his charges.
