This photograph was taken by an Oro-Medonte resident Friday, Feb. 28, at around 5 p.m., after he noticed what appeared to be a person pointing a firearm in front of his house near Rail Trail Drive and Tudhope Boulevard. Provincial police have declined to comment on the incident, citing limited information.

An Oro-Medonte resident had to do a double take while looking out of his window on Friday after witnessing what appeared to be someone pointing a firearm at another individual on the street in front of his home.

Around 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, Stephen Berlenbach noticed people and cars in front of the house near Rail Trail Drive and Tudhope Boulevard, northeast of Oro Station.

“... Nothing out of the ordinary. Lots of people park at the end of my street to walk rail trail,” he posted on social media the same day.

“The next time I look out I see a guy with a rifle and it looks like he’s forcing someone into the car. Not sure what is going on, but I think I need to move further north,” Berlenbach posted.

He quickly grabbed a few photos of what looks like one person aiming a large firearm at another person.

Berlenbach said he found the incident startling, but he is still unsure exactly what took place that day.

“I haven't been contacted by police,” he said a few days after the incident.

A reporter contacted Ontario Provincial Police on Tuesday seeking more information, but they declined to comment. An officer said if more information becomes available, a news release on the incident will be issued.

In the meantime, there has been speculation about what may have been happening Friday evening.

“Apparently, it was kids making some kind of movie, and I’m hoping that’s true,” Berlenbach said. “I didn't see any cellphones or cameras.”

He said the possible explanation was relayed to him by another area resident.

“If it is true about kids making a movie on a public street with some kind of firearm, that’s about as stupid as you can get, especially pointing it at someone,” Berlenbach added.
