Police say this pamphlet being circulated in the Orillia area is a scam.

Police are warning of a new scam involving fire safety circulating in the Orillia area.

On Thursday, Orillia OPP was provided with an “oddly formatted” pamphlet that had no business markings, police said in a news release. It included a home safety checklist and fire safety advice.

An Orillia fire prevention officer helped police determine the fire alarms pictured on the pamphlet did not appear to be Canadian standard. The only contact information included was a handwritten number on one of the pages.

Police remind people “there are dishonest people out there who want to take your money.”

Anyone who might have been a victim or who has information is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestopperssdm.com.
