An Orillia man has been charged with arson after a Halloween night fire at a King Street apartment building.
Police have arrested Scott Reed, 39, and charged him with arson (damage to property) and common nuisance (endanger life) in the wake of the blaze.
On Thursday evening, at about 5:40 p.m. the Orillia OPP responded to a call from the Orillia Fire Department about the fire in the 12-unit building.
While the fire was contained to one unit of the building, all residents were forced to find a place to stay last night due to smoke damage in the building.
“One unit has a lot of fire and smoke damage,” Orillia Deputy Fire Chief Chris Ferry told OrilliaMatters last night. “The fire was contained to one unit, but there is smoke damage throughout.”
According to a media release from the Orillia OPP this morning, Reed was transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital with minor injuries related to the fire.
He remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.
