An Orillia woman is warning people about a scam after she received a suspicious phone call Friday.
The woman, who didn’t want her name used, said the caller told her she might be eligible for a carbon tax rebate worth hundreds of dollars. She was told someone would first have to come to her home to inspect her appliances and furnace to see if she would be eligible.
The woman knew better and ended the call, but she contacted OrilliaMatters because she was concerned some people might fall for it.
Scams, or potential scams, should be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
