Oro-Medonte official says fire left a smouldering wreck as blaze extended to grassy area on the boulevard; vehicle was deemed a total loss

ORO-MEDONTE — No one was hurt after a pickup truck caught fire south of Orillia on Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind only a smouldering wreck.

Oro-Medonte Township fire crews were called to the Esso gas station off Highway 11, between County Road 93 and Line 1, confirmed Deputy Fire Chief Murray Langman on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle, a late-model GMC Colorado pickup truck, was engulfed in flames, he said, noting the vehicle was a total loss.

“The fire also extended into a grassy area on the boulevard,” he said.

Although the fire was contained to the parking lot, police did close one lane of northbound traffic while crews worked given the proximity to the road.

The OPP also assisted the owner of the vehicle in arranging to have the truck towed.

Crews were on scene for about an hour putting out the fire.

The cause is unknown at this time.
