Two people have been arrested after police say they stole alcohol from the Thornbury LCBO and led officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Shortly before noon Sunday, police were called to a theft in progress at the LCBO. Two men had entered the store, took about $800 worth of high-value Scotch and left without paying, Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP said in a news release.

Officers spotted the vehicle on Balsam Street in Collingwood. They initiated a traffic stop, but the suspects sped away and “violated the right-of-way” at several intersections.

More officers converged on the area and saw the vehicle heading west toward the Blue Mountain ski hills. The vehicle was found abandoned in a ski lodge parking lot. With the public’s assistance, officers located and arrested the suspects, one of whom was found hiding in the washroom of the ski lodge.

Police learned the Mitsubishi RVR had been stolen in Brampton on Feb. 28. Police also recovered a stolen licence plate, a small quantity of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, and the stolen Scotch.

One of the suspects had provided a false name to officers, and both were connected to other criminal investigations in the region, police said.

Harmander Singh, 25, of Toronto, has been charged with the following:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Theft under $5,000 (shoplifting)

Jagman Kular, 26, of Brampton, has been charged with the following:

  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Theft under $5,000 (shoplifting)

Both were held in custody pending a bail heading Monday in Collingwood.
