Police are investigating a complaint about a suspicious person, possibly with a gun, in Gravenhurst.

On Dec. 12 at 10 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person who, 30 minutes earlier, was seen standing in front of a residence on Pinegrove Street. Beside him in the snow was what the complainant said looked like a long gun, possibly similar to a rifle, with a magazine attached, Bracebridge OPP said in a news release.

“There is no indication that the item was used in any manner that would compromise public safety,” police said.

Police canine and emergency response teams responded, but the ongoing snowfall made the search difficult, and the person was not located.

While police say there is “no described threat to public safety,” they would like to speak with this person.

Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestopperssdm.com.
