Six-hour standoff after altercation ends with man's arrest: OPP

Individual taken into custody without incident at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, police say

ADJALA-TOSORONTIO — The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual after an incident in Adjala-Tosorontio that was brought to an end after six hours with help from crisis negotiators.

On Tuesday shortly after 10 p.m., members from Nottawasaga OPP were dispatched to a residence in the area of Concession Road 2 in response to an altercation.

Officers evacuated and contained the surrounding area, according to an OPP news release.

A social media post advised the public in the area to shelter in place, police said.

Police increased their presence by dispatching members of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Unit (K9), and Emergency Response Team (ERT).

After hours of speaking with crisis negotiators, the individual was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
