Traffic stop leads to drug seizure, 19 charges for local man

A Midland man is facing numerous weapon, drug and traffic charges following a traffic stop Aug. 28.

Shortly after 8 p.m., police pulled over the man in a Dodge Dart for speeding on Yonge Street. The traffic stop led to the seizure of “a considerable amount of street drugs, Canadian currency and weapons,” Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release issued Thursday.

Police seized substances believed to be methamphetamine, oxycodone, heroin, psilocybin and cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia and an imitation .45-calibre BB pistol.

Joshua Lemay, 35, has been charged with the following: 

  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Failure to comply with a probation order
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance (opioid other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Failing to produce a permit
  • Driving without proper headlights
  • Driving with a windshield obstructed
  • Improper tires
  • Driving without a licence
  • Being a Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by a qualified driver
  • Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Failing to have an insurance card
  • Failing to surrender a suspended driver’s licence

The accused was held for bail.
