When we look at the financial relationships between Canada and the United States the amount of money invested in equities (Financial Direct Investments) have to be taken into account.

In the year 2022, Canadians invested $589 billion in U.S. equities, whereas U.S. investors owned $438 billion in Canadian equities.

We all know the reasons why: bigger stock market, more opportunities etc. But the fact is that Canadian companies and individuals invested a lot of money in U.S. companies.

I haven’t heard any of our united (yeah, right) Team Canada members yet mention that. Financial relationships are a lot more than oil, gas, electricity, orange juice and California wine.
