NEW TECUMSETH — A 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and indignity to a body following the death of a newborn at an Alliston residence in November.
Nottawasaga OPP says the charges were laid in connection to a suspicious death investigation, which has now been ruled a homicide.
Police say officers discovered the baby's body inside the home around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2024.
The accused, who is from New Tecumseth, was charged on Jan. 15, 2025. No other details have been released, including their gender or their relationship with the deceased.
Police say the accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear virtually before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie today (Jan. 16) to answer to the charges.
The Nottawasaga OPP crime unit continue investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
