'Disturbance' on Shannon Street prompts heavy police presence

Details remain scarce as authorities have cordoned off Shannon Street with police tape

There is a significant police presence on Shannon Street this afternoon, where multiple cruisers are stationed in front of a home.

"We did respond to a disturbance on Shannon Street," said Gilles Doiron, the Orillia OPP's community mobilization unit's acting sergeant. "We do have officers in the area who are holding the scene."

Despite the heavy police presence, Doiron says there is no threat to public safety.

He said officers were called to the scene this afternoon just after 1 p.m.

Doiron says an investigation is ongoing and further information will be released when possible.

Doiron asks anyone with information or footage related to the disturbance to contact police.
