Man charged with theft, fraud following Kilworthy-area break-ins

Suspect entered vehicles and garages, stealing cash, credit cards and other items, police say

A Gravenhurst man is facing numerous charges following break-ins and thefts earlier this month in the Kilworthy area.

On March 5 at about 4:30 a.m., police were called to reports of break-ins and thefts at residences. The suspect had entered vehicles and garages and stolen items including cash, identification, and credit cards, Bracebridge OPP said in a news release.

Police obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect used a stolen credit card at a nearby establishment.

A search warrant was executed in Barrie, where the suspect was located and stolen property was recovered.

Brandon Tonna has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Trespassing at night (two counts)
  • Theft of a credit card
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (two counts)
  • Theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Break, enter a dwelling house
  • Mischief
  • Fraud under $5,000

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing Friday.
