A Newmarket school bus driver was found to be impaired after a RIDE check in Aurora. No passengers were on the bus at the time.
The 61-year-old failed a road side screening after being stopped in the area of Leslie Street and Wellington Street in Aurora at about 8:45 a.m. Nov. 30.
He was placed under arrest and taken to the district one headquarters for a breath test.
The Newmarket man has now been charged with over 80. His licence was suspended and the school bus he was driving was impounded for seven days.
York Regional Police said it will continue carrying out RIDE checks with commercial vehicles to ensure the safety of all road users.
"We remind those who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol that not only are police officers watching for them, our citizens also refuse to tolerate this behavior," it said. "Anyone choosing to put others at risk by driving while impaired should expect to be caught and charged."
