A stakeout Monday in Orillia has resulted in charges against two people and the seizure of drugs, weapons and stolen items.
On Jan. 20, several items and tools, including an automotive scanner, were reported stolen from an Orillia address.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, police responded to a call from a witness who said someone was trying to sell them stolen property. The witness knew the original victim of the theft and confirmed the serial number on the automotive scanner being sold matched that of the one that was stolen.
Just after 4 p.m., officers staged nearby as the witness met with the people who were trying to sell the items, and the suspects were arrested. During the arrests, police found drugs and several prohibited weapons, Orillia OPP said in a news release.
Police seized the following:
- More than 45 grams of suspected cocaine
- More than 100 grams of suspected pink fentanyl
- More than 40 hydromorphone tablets, and other various pills
- Functioning scales, cellphones, and other drug paraphernalia
- Numerous credit cards and identification documents
- More than $1,500 in Canadian currency
Michael Hart-Payne, 30, of Orillia, has been charged with the following:
- Possession of property obtained by crime (three counts)
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
- Possessing counterfeit money
- Possession of a credit card
- Possession of an identity document
- Identity theft
- Failure to comply with a probation order (four counts)
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (two counts)
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (six counts)
Michael Corriveau, 30, of Orillia, has been charged with the following:
- Possession of property obtained by crime (three counts)
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
- Possessing counterfeit money
- Possession of a credit card
- Possession of an identity document
- Identity theft
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (six counts)
Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing in Orillia.
