The driver of a transport truck missing half its lug nuts has been charged.
Someone called James Bay OPP on Jan. 26 around 4:30 p.m. after seeing a commercial motor vehicle with a wobbling rear wheel that appeared to be on the verge of detaching. The caller saw the vehicle in Opasatika and police found it pulled over on the shoulder of the highway in Reesor Siding.
"An inspection revealed severe blackening and misalignment at the rear of the trailer, and one of the trailer's wheels had only half of its lug nuts still attached," said police in a news release.
A 24-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle
- Driver commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in drawn vehicle
- Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report
The accused appears in court on March 18 in Hearst.
"The OPP reminds all commercial vehicle operators to conduct thorough daily inspections and promptly address any safety defects. Incidents involving wheel detachment or vehicle defects pose serious risks to all road users," said police.
