Traffic stop in Muskoka Lakes leads to weapon, drug charges

The duo, originally stopped for speeding, are facing 22 charges combined

A traffic stop in Muskoka Lakes Township has led to numerous weapon and drug charges being laid against two people.

On Sept. 14 at 12:10 a.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer patrolling on Muskoka Road 169, near Acton Island Road, noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

During the traffic stop, one occupant of the vehicle said they needed medical care. Paramedics attended and took the person to hospital for an unrelated, non-life-threatening condition, police said in a news release.

Clayton Eisan, 34, of Port Carling, has been charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Transporting a firearm in a careless manner
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Several Highway Traffic Act offences

Charity Thompson, 43, of Barrie, has been charged with the following: 

  • Possession of Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Transporting a firearm in a careless manner
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order

Both accused were held in custody and have a Sept. 20 court date in Bracebridge.
