A Toronto man faces several charges after Barrie police say he was caught going almost 100 kilometres per hour on Ferndale Drive while also using his cellphone.

Police say traffic unit officers conduct proactive patrols day and night throughout the city and use available technology to carry out their duties.

On Wednesday morning, police say a traffic officer was performing "stationary enforcement" when an alleged speeder, who was also using his phone, caught the officer’s attention.

The vehicle was going 98 km/h in a posted 50-km/h zone, police say.

A 33-year-old Toronto man has been charged with speeding, driving while using a handheld communication device and stunt driving

His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court in Barrie on April 25.
