An Elmvale man faces a long list of charges after city police say he threatened a woman with a knife in downtown Barrie, but officers soon found more weapons in his possession, including a firearm, as well as illegal drugs.
Barrie police say officers responded to the call around 2:30 a.m., Monday, on Bayfield Street near Dunlop Street.
Police say officers were provided with a "detailed description" of the suspect, who was soon located and found to be in possession of a knife.
A subsequent search of a duffle bag and a backpack led to the seizure of "packaged" crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, Canadian currency, and a semi-automatic "assault-style" rifle with ammunition, according to police.
The man was taken into custody and was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.
A 33-year-old Elmvale man has been charged with:
- Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - fentanyl
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - hydromorphone
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - hydromorphone
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - fentanyl
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order.
The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
