Markham man gunned down in his driveway in 'targeted' shooting

Police say 44-year-old was shot dead outside his home at about 6:30 p.m.; police searching for suspect, white SUV

York Regional Police say a man was fatally shot in his driveway in Markham Saturday.

Just after 6:30 p.m., police responded to a weapons call in the area of 14th Avenue and McCowan Road.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the driveway of his residence.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a YRP news release.

Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Partheepan Panchalingham.

Investigators are looking for at least one suspect who was wearing dark clothing and was seen in the area at the time, as well as a white SUV.

Police said they do not believe it was a random shooting. The victim was targeted.

Police asked anyone who was in the area or lives in the neighbourhood to check their security cameras and dashcam footage.
