Members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have arrested and charged three males with impaired driving over the weekend.
On Dec. 5, 2020, shortly after 9:00 p.m., an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11, Oro-Medonte Township, when a vehicle travelling at an extreme speed passed the officer. A traffic stop was conducted and after speaking with the driver, an impaired driving investigation was commenced.
The male driver, Matthew Robertshaw, age 37, of Mississauga, Ontario, was arrested and has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a form 10 undertaking and is set to appear on Jan. 19, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
On Dec. 6, 2020, approximately 3:00 a.m., an officer was again conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 11, Oro-Medonte Township, when a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The officer began an impaired driving investigation and the male driver was subsequently arrested.
As a result, Darnell Thompson, age 26, of Hamilton, Ontario, has been charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a form 10 undertaking and is set to appear on Jan. 19, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
Shortly after noon the same day, officers received a report of a collision on Barrie Road, Orillia, involving two vehicles.
No one was injured in the collision but officers had suspicion that one of the drivers was under the influence of drugs and an investigation ensued.
The driver, Joshua Maukonen, age 32, of Orillia, was arrested and, after further investigation, was charged with operation while impaired - drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a form 9 appearance notice and is set to appear on Feb. 9, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
